Omaha Productions’ P.K.’s Places Visits Devils’ Legend Martin Brodeur

P.K. Subban has been keeping himself busy since hanging up his skates last season. In addition to being an NHL commentator for ESPN, Subban has his own series on ESPN+ called “P.K.’s Places”. If you’ve ever seen “Peyton’s Places” with Peyton Manning, it’s a hockey themed version of that (both are produced by Omaha Productions).

For those unfamiliar with either show, each episode sees Subban explore the history of NHL with appearances from sports legends, actors, and even commissioner Gary Bettman.

The latest episode features a few familiar faces to Devils’ fans. First, there is the beloved Chico Resch. Chico looks great on camera, so much so, MSG really needs to give serious consideration to bringing back “Chico Eats.”

Fellow ESPN analyst Kevin Weekes also makes an appearance in the goalie themed episode. This time, Weekes isn’t breaking NHL news with his famous Twitter videos, but in search of a certain goalie mask to add to his collection. That being, Chico’s from the New York Islanders, which is in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Chico has a spare he’s willing to donate to Weekes’ collection, only if Subban passes the test of being an NHL net minder.

That test brings us to the episode’s most noteworthy guest appearance, you already guessed it: Martin Brodeur. Teacher becomes opponent as Subban battles Brodeur for Chico’s mask. Along the way, Brodeur also explains a little about his upbringing and the styles of play he used as a goaltender.

The short episode (only about 25 minutes in length) is a must watch for any Devils’ fan. If nothing else, it’s a fun little episode to keep us waiting for next season featuring some of our franchise legends. As usual, Subban brings his larger than life personality. Further, Chico is delightful, and hilarious, as always.

Even me, who considers myself well versed in hockey history, learned a few things about the history of goalie masks from Kevin Weekes in this episode. Fun fact, goalies didn’t always used to wear masks. You probably already knew that, but it’s a terrifying thought and we need to give early goaltenders credit for facing pucks with their faces unprotected.

The episode is now available to watch on ESPN+ for subscribers.
