Following a disappointing opening weekend in Minnesota the Metropolitan Riveters are back in action tonight. They will visit the Boston Pride at 7:30, this marks the first game of the season for the Pride.

The Riveters were shutout 4-0 and then defeated 3-1 by the Minnesota Whitecaps. Jenny Ryan scored the lone goal that weekend. The team is looking to improve upon a poor weekend and potentially getting their luck turned around in Boston, here is what to look forward to.

Players to Watch

Amanda Kessel… Expect the olympian to have a big game following a quiet opening weekend. While that is not exactly a fair statement as the entire team was quiet, you are entitled to expect a little more from a gold medalist. I think she will have a big breakout game and help lead the Riveters to a victory.

Alexa Gruschow… The former leading goal scorer will also need to get her mojo back. She was arguably the best player in the league last year winning the MVP and scoring the most goals. She will also need to have a big game if the Riveters want to get in the winning column. I would count on a goal or two from her as well.

Courtney Burke… The best defender in the league will need to be just that in assisting Katie Fitzgerald against Boston. With olympian Haley Skarupa returning, the workload for the Riveters netminder will be way heavier. Burke will be a big part in helping as not only will her stick handling and assists be important, but she will need to also get in front of a few shots to help reduce the workload. She will be very crucial in shutting down Skarupa and the Pride.

Prediction

This game is sure to be a thriller from start to finish. The Pride are just opening their season as they had the bye week during week one. Both teams are in search of win number one and that makes the stakes that much higher. The Riveters cannot afford to start this season 0-3. Especially coming home to host the Whitecaps in back to back games the following weekend. Take the Riveters to win the game by a fair scoring game of 4-3.
