Riveters Free Agent Profile: Rebecca Russo

Will one of the top scorers return to the Riveters?- Rebecca Russo Twitter

Today we will be looking at Metropolitan Riveters forward Rebecca Russo. The 23-year-old had an incredible year for the Riveters in her second NWHL season. She posted a career-high 10 goals and 20 points, while kept her streak alive of never taking a penalty since joining the league. This proves how Russo not only moves the puck well and can score basically at will, but how she is also one of the most disciplined players the league has to offer.

Altogether, Russo averaged a point per game, which is not an easy task to accomplish. She also scored the game-winning goal in the semifinals against the Connecticut Whale. Russo scored just 64 seconds into the game off the first shot on goal. The former Boston University Terrier is going to have way more value this coming offseason, especially after the first two years that she has had. If she elects to remain in the league, the Riveters need to do everything they can to try and sign her to a new contract. She is a fan favorite and loved by everyone on and off the ice.

All four teams will surely be in pursuit if Metropolitan can’t re-sign Russo before the restricted period ends. In a recent Q&A with Devils and Riveters reporter Dan Rice, Russo states that she has a ton of interest in returning to the league and the Riveters for her third season. She says it is near 100 percent certainty so it might be a safe bet to say she will be back with Metropolitan for 2018-2019.
