Recap

The New Jersey Devils were looking to keep their winning streak alive with a win over the Boston Bruins but were unable to come away with the victory, suffering a 5-1 loss. Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins ended up being a last-minute scratch from the lineup due to injury, but the Bruins still showcased their strong play by scoring 5 goals against the Devils and Mackenzie Blackwood.

This was the first game the Devils have played since Cory Schneider was sent down, and Blackwood did not have an amazing game between the pipes — he finished the game with 23 saves on 28 shots for a .821 save percentage. Blake Coleman was able to cut the Bruins lead from 2-0 to 2-1 near the end of the second period with a solid backhand goal. The Bruins, however, would put 3 more goals past Blackwood and the Devils defense in the third period.

The Devils need to put this game in the rearview mirror and focus on winning their next contests. A loss is ok if the team is constantly on a streak of 2-1 in their last 3 games. The Devils have dug themselves a hole though to start the season so the margin for error is very slim. The one thing Devils fans should brace for is that if changes need to be made, they will be made. Fans witnessed this, with the acquisition of Louis Domingue via trade, and more recently followed by the movement of Cory Schneider to Binghamton.

No one is safe and whatever it takes to improve the team will happen, but the change will not be immediate or a knee jerk reaction just like the movement of Schneider mentioned before. That move was clearly a decision that was made over time. The Devils can right the ship and move in the right direction, but the time to move in the right direction is starting to run out as Thanksgiving is almost here. The Devils’ next game will be a rematch on Friday in Pittsburgh followed by the second game of the back-to-back against the Detroit Red Wings at The Rock.
