Match Overview

This afternoon the New Jersey Devils face off against the New York Rangers for the eighth and final time this season. The Devils have won two of the previous six meetings, both coming at Madison Square Garden earlier in the season. Aaron Dell got the call in goal yesterday, meaning it’s likely Mackenzie Blackwood’s net this afternoon.

What/Who to Watch

  • Yesterday, Rangers’ forward Pavel Buchnevich celebrated his 26th birthday with a hat trick. Today, another star Rangers’ forward in Mika Zibanejad is celebrating his 28th birthday. I’m not saying he’s going to score a hat trick, I’m just saying don’t be surprised.

  • Devils’ forward Jack Hughes may be the unluckiest player in the NHL. According to NHL.com he’s hit seven posts which is tied for the most in the league with another American first overall pick in Auston Matthews. He’s not getting a ton of help either, with another Devils forward Yegor Sharangovich being tied for 7th in the league in posts hit with five. As a team the Devils have combined for 32 posts and four crossbars this season.

  • Pavel Zacha and Jesper Bratt expect to remain out this afternoon yet again for the Devils. Their absence has clearly affected the team with them only scoring three goals in the past two games without them. Bratt’s absence was felt especially during his first game out with the Devils getting shut out and only accumulating 16 total shots

This afternoon’s Devils game is on MSG2 at 3:00 PM EST.
