As the preseason begins to draw to a close, the Devils currently have 28 players on their roster. There are a few surprises but for the most part, the roster has shaken out to what everyone thought it would be. The game tonight against the Winnipeg Jets could be some of the fringe players’ last chance to make an impression with the big club. So it shouldn’t be a surprise if there is some added effort out on the ice.
Here are a few guys who will be looking to make an impact.
Brett Seney: Seney has impressed everyone not only with his speed but with his work ethic. The former sixth-round pick has shown that he not only can keep up at the NHL level but can also dictate the pace of play when given the opportunity. Seney’s relentless energy and speed would be perfect for the bottom six.
John Quenneville: Quenneville came into the summer in, reportedly, the best shape of his life. He has shown flashes at the NHL level but has lacked the consistency necessary to stick. If he isn’t able to play a role on the big club this season, it will probably be time for the Devils to cut their losses.
Kevin Rooney: Rooney is a puzzling choice to hang around. He has struggled in his short stints in New Jersey. He is a hard-working fourth liner, but outside of that, he doesn’t bring a whole lot to the table. But hey, last year it was a commonly held belief that Brian Gibbons brought nothing to the table.
Eddie Lack: Lack is going to enter the season as the Devils back up. Cory Schneider isn’t 100% so Lack is going to get the call. Lack actually strung together some great performances down the stretch last season. Hopefully, he is able to bring some of that this year while we all wait for the Schneiderman to return.
