The Metropolitan Riveters are looking to win two straight against the Connecticut Whale after beating them last week in a shootout. This would be the first time they win consecutive games this season as they try to spark momentum and get back to a better spot in the standings.

While things are looking up for the Riveters, their lineup still seems to be in a scramble. Kelsey Koelzer, who suffered what was thought to be a minor ankle injury at the end of last week’s game, is a scratch after it may have been more serious. Along with her is Amanda Kessel, the Rivs point leader, out after a one game comeback from injury.

Another big question leading up to today’s game is what goalie will be in net. While Katie Fitzgerald has been front and center for mostly every Riveters game we’ve seen over the past few years, Kimberly Sass would be riding the hot hand coming off of a win against Connecticut. Either way it goes, these two teams hope for a solid matchup for last place where one hopes to break away and rise in the ranks. Today will be a true test for that.

With Miye D’Oench returning to the Riveters last week and not only getting two points for herself, but also igniting last year’s league MVP, Alexa Gruschow to get two points as well, their powerful line should more than make up for Kessel sitting this one out.

This game is being held at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Pittsburgh as a special partnership with the NHL. This fairs well for Rebecca Russo who last played in Pittsburgh at the NWHL All-Star Game two years ago, and played well.

Connecticut goaltender, Meeri Raisanen is a force to be reckoned with, looking for her second NWHL win. However, I think the Riveters have finally started to figure her out. Without much insight into who will be in goal for the Riveters it’s hard to make a prediction, however I think the Rivs will turn the tides today and take it 3-2.
