Game Overview

The Devils suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday. The team was doomed by poor discipline and the dynamic play of Gabriel Landeskog. The Devils now venture south down the Jersey Turnpike to take on the Philadelphia Flyers, who are coming off of a 6-3 blowout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, and currently hold a record of 3-4-0.

Keys to the Game

Even though the Devils lost to Colorado, there is was a decent amount of takeaways worth noting. Their offense continued to thrive, while Nico Hischier and Taylor Hall were finally rewarded for their scoring chances. Hopefully that can continue in Philadelphia.

That shouldn’t be too hard against the Flyers. Philadelphia is second worst in the Eastern Conference when it comes to goals against. Only the tanking Red Wings have been surrendered more goals. The Devils top line should be able to run rampant over an extremely spotty Flyers defensive core.

Philadelphia’s forwards will be the primary cause for concern for New Jersey. Claude Giroux was a Hart Trophy finalist last season, and you could argue that Sean Couturier should have won the Selke. These are two elite talents that are flanked by skilled players such as Wayne Simmons, James Van Reimsdyk, and Travis Konecny.

Player to Watch

As most Devils Flyers games are, expect this one to be a high-scoring affair. Whenever these two teams meet something unprecedented almost always seems to happen. Watch for somebody like Miles Wood to make an impact, whether it be with his skating or physicality.
