Tonight is a night that is very familiar with New Jersey Devils’ fans: the NHL Draft Lottery. So, where can you watch it? What pick is the most likely for New Jersey? Find out below.
When and Where
The draft lottery will commence at 6:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN. It is set to take place at NHL headquarters in New Jersey.
Structure
All 16 non-playoff teams qualify for the lottery. The league will run the lottery, based off odds, to see which two teams win and get to move up.
Worth noting, a new rule this year is teams cannot move up more than 10 spots. For example, if the 13th slotted New York Islanders, “win the lottery,” the highest they can move up is to the 3rd slot.
Another new rule is that teams cannot, ”win the lottery,” and move up more than twice in a five year period. So, if the Devils were to, ”win the lottery,” and move up to either first or second overall selection this season, they can only move up once more over the next four draft lotteries. Note, this rule is starting this year so every team has a fresh slate.
