With the Devil’s prospect tournament coming up, there is a lot of buzz surrounding the team’s top prospects like Pavel Zacha and Michael McLeod. The mounting hype is warranted though as both those players are projected to become potential elite forces in Newark. Yet two players don’t make up an NHL team. Here are a couple prospects to also keep your eyes on.

Brandon Gignac:

The small skilled center was the Devil’s 3rd round pick in last year’s draft. He played last season in Shawinigan and put up 24 goals and 37 assist in 67 games. Gignac is extremely skilled with the puck and blazingly fast. He routinely drives play into the offensive zone and creates offense. Like Blake Speers, Gignac should see a greater role this season as the Cataracts lost players this season. An added workload could lead to Gignac garnering better stats next season.

Miles Wood:

Fans were introduced to Wood when he made his NHL debut in the last game of last season alongside Pavel Zacha and Steve Santini. They were also introduced to his speed and tenacity on the fore check as well. Miles Wood plays the game extremely fast. He hits and plays larger than his listed size of 6’1” 185 lbs. He had an extremely productive freshman year at Boston College, scoring 10 goals and 25 assists in 37 games. He routinely used his speed and strength to dominate opponents and drive play for BC. He will probably begin the year in Albany but look for him to make the jump to the NHL at some point this season.

Colton White:

Colton White has been disrespected by most Devils prospects list. When talking about the Devil’s defensive prospects, the conversation always revolves around Josh Jacobs and Steve Santini. Colton White is the Devils 3rd best defensive prospect. White has improved each year he has played with Sault Ste. Marie in the OHL. With added minutes last season, White developed a scoring touch and scored at over .5 points per game. He will play in the OHL next season and look to dominate as an overaged player, and continue to develop. After that the Devils should have another close to NHL-ready prospect next season.

Jesper Bratt:

This Swedish winger has 2 elite tools: hands and speed. Bratt is a skilled skater and can deke past any defenseman in his league. These are important skills as he is undersized at 5’10” 174 lbs. The quick agile winger just struggles to find the back of the net. If Bratt could develop some scoring touch and add some weight he could turn into a dynamic player. Even without those assets, he is a skilled playmaking winger. Bratt is ultimately a long term project, but could eventually turn into a big score.
