Matchup Overview:
The New Jersey Cammalleri’s won big last game 4-1 over tonight’s opponent the Carolina Hurricanes. Cammalleri broke out of his scoring funk and netted his first 3 goals of the season in his first (hopefully not last) hat trick of the season. Keith Kinkaid also was able to get his first win of the season. The Devils also got their first road win of the season this game as well.
The Hurricanes are struggling through their first 11 games only collecting 3 wins. Even worse is that last game arguably their best player, Justin Faulk, was injured and questionable to play tonight. They hope to gain some traction tonight and hopefully turn their season around.

Keys to the Game:
Though it is definitely moving in the right direction the secondary scoring needs to improve. Taylor Hall and Damon Severson have shouldered a large amount of the offensive output so hopefully the Cammalleri hat trick last game was a vision of what will come. Zacha has finally broken through and gotten his first goal but players like Adam Henrique and Kyle Palmieri have struggled to find the back of the net early this season. Hopefully they can get their momentum going tonight at the Rock.

Players to Watch:

For the first time this year I am not choosing Pavel Zacha as my player to watch for this game (even though you should still watch him). Damon Severson has quietly been the Devils best player through their first 11 games. The Devils needed him to fill the void left by Adam Larsson and Severson has seemingly done that and more. Watch for him to continue his success against a weak Hurricanes team.

Jeff Skinner has been a staple of the Carolina Hurricanes’ offense since his rookie season where he put up 63 points. He has over a point per game at the moment and leads the Hurricanes with 6 goals. His dynamic offensive skill should be a key point of interest for the New Jersey defensive core.

Prediction:
The Devils have had their struggles against a tough schedule through this early going but they have played well overall. They should be able to continue their success against a Hurricanes line up that’s missing Justin Faulk.
Devils win 3-0

SB’s Record:
5-2
