The Devils preseason continues with another bout against the rival New York Rangers. The last meeting between these two teams resulted in a 3-1 loss for New Jersey. Neither team fielded a roster anywhere close to what they will be trotting out on opening night nevertheless it is always tough to lose to the cross town rivals.
That is all behind the Devils as they move onto Saturday at the Rock. There are some key elements of the game that the Devils must improve on to succeed.
Keys to the Game:
– Discipline. The Devils played with reckless abandon last game amassing 6 penalties. The Devils can’t afford to give the other team this many opportunities on the man advantage if they want to win games in the regular season.
– The Devils also need to work on shot suppression as through the first 2 periods of the last game they allowed 25 shots against Scott Wedgewood. This may be helped by improved discipline and smarter defense.
– The Devils also need to work on keeping up a high tempo offense. In the 2nd period of last game they only managed to put 5 shots on net. If they want to score more than one goal on the Rangers they are going to have to create more consistent offense.
