Game Summary
First Period
The first period was a scoring affair from both teams. New York got the party started with the first two goals of the game. Just over a minute into the opening frame, Artemi Panarin broke his scoreless streak. A stretch pass by K’Andre Miller to Filip Chytil sent the Rangers on an odd-man rush. Chytil found Panarin cross ice for the opening strike.
Just two minutes later, a shot by Jacob Trouba bounced off of Vitek Vanecek, and Mika Zibanejad punched home the rebound.
However, The Devils would go on to even the score. Off a beautiful passing play, Tomas Tatar roofed a backhand shot past Igor Shesterkin to cut the deficit to within one. Just over six minutes later, Yegor Sharangovich snapped a wrist shot to tie the game up at two.
Second Period
New Jersey picked up where it left off. Just under six minutes into the second period, Jack Hughes broke the tie. A beautiful flip pass by Dawson Mercer sprung Hughes on a break way where he slid the puck past Shesterkin.
Moments later, Miles Wood fired a shot off the cross bar and Michael McLeod punched home the rebound. The Devils would continue to dominate and took a two-goal lead into the third period.
Third Period
Each team went on to trade goals in the period. On the power play, an Adam Fox shot created a rebound that was punched home by Vincent Trocheck. Sharangovich would seal the deal with an empty-net goal. When the horn sounded, the Devils emerged victorious 5-3.
