Who is Stefan Noesen?
Stefan Noesen is a 6’2”, 205 pound 23-year old American-born right winger. He was drafted in the first-round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, 21st overall by the Ottawa Senators. He played his junior-hockey career with the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL from 2009-2013. Although Noesen was drafted by Ottawa, he would never play in either an NHL or AHL game for the organization. In 2013, he was a part of a trade that sent him, and former Senator Jakob Silfverberg, along with a first-round pick to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Bobby Ryan. Noesen started his professional career with the AHL’s Norfolk Admirals (now known as the San Diego Gulls) and continued his stint there until he was called up for one game during the 2014-15 season. After appearing in one NHL game last year, he began this season with the Duck’s AHL team (San Diego Gulls) until he was called up, serving on their 4th line with Jared Boll and Joseph Cramarossa. He averaged 6:33 of TOI, for 12 games with the Ducks. Anaheim decided to send him down, which was when New Jersey successfully claimed him.

**Along with basic statistics I also gathered one of Noesen’s possession metrics. Stefan obtained a corsi of 48.4% (CF%) within his 12-game stretch with Anaheim this year which is 4th highest among forwards on the current Devil’s roster. This number slots him in between Travis Zajac and Pavel Zacha. Interpret this statistic with great caution due to such a small sample size (73:04 total TOI). **

How will he Fit?
After examining Noesen’s background and statistics, we can tell that he is not the young goal-scorer all Devils fans would like to have. However, with the recent news that forward Beau Bennett has been placed on the IR, I’m guessing that Hynes is going to use him as Beau’s replacement until he returns from injury. There is also a large possibility that Noesen will be sent down right away to the Albany Devils (AHL). Albany has recently released a player from a PTO which means a call-down from the NHL club can be imminent. For this article’s sake let’s say he sticks around long enough to suit up for a NHL game; so where would he fit if he stays? At 6’2”, 205 pounds he is surprisingly one of the Devil’s largest forwards, so I can see him fitting nicely on the fourth line with the other big-bodied devils like Vernon Fiddler and Sergey Kalinin. Until we see Stefan Noesen in a Devils uniform, we can only speculate how he will fit. Let’s hope that a change of scenery will help this former first-round pick grow and become an asset to our New Jersey Devils.
