Tonight the Devils are set to battle their Hudson River rival, the New York Rangers. Here are tonight’s starting goaltenders courtesy of Left Wing Lock.
Matchup Overview
The Devils are looking to bounce back from a 5-3 loss last night against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Rangers are also coming off their own loss, a 4-2 contest against the Washington Capitals. Needless to say, both teams are hungry for a win especially with how close the the teams are in the Metropolitan Division. Check it out. It looks like both backup goaltenders will be getting the nod tonight, so expect to see Keith Kinkaid and Ondrej Pavelec.
What & Who to Watch
Brian Boyle…Boyle has gotten himself a small scoring spurt going and it is fantastic considering everything he has gone through this season. He is also playing one of his former teams, so it is always just more incentive for players to do better. It may be bold to say but expect another fine game from him.
Pavel Buchnevich… If there is someone the Devils need to keep an eye on tonight it would be No. 89 in blue. Buchnevich is off to a great start this year, notching 10 goals and 11 assists. After spending a lot of last season as a healthy scratch in favor of Tanner Glass, Buchnevich is proving why he deserves to be in the lineup every night. If New Jersey does not shut him down he is going to be a problem all game.
A low scoring game… Many will think because the back ups are in that this is automatically going to be a high scoring game. That is not always going to be the case. Both goaltenders have had good performances this season, such as when they faced off against each other in the previous Devils-Rangers match up. A game won by the Devils 3-2. I will not be surprised if we see a low scoring game in New York City tonight.
Prediction
As always I like to give my prediction for tonight’s affair. I think we are in for a very close game right to the final buzzer. The importance of this game is extremely high and when it comes to important games you need to look at the goaltenders to do well. Take Kinkaid and the Devils as 3-1 victors.
