Match Overview
The New Jersey Devils (20-9-5) are back in action tonight as they take on the Chicago Blackhawks (17-12-5). This marks game number four in the Devils’ six game home-stand. They are currently 3-0-0 since returning to the Prudential Center, coming off a 4-3 shootout victory over their Hudson River rivals, the New York Rangers. The Blackhawks, on the other hand, are fresh off of a 4-0 loss against the Dallas Stars. It is the last game before the three day holiday break, which begins tomorrow.
Who/What to Watch
Patrick Kane… I know this is obvious but I am going to explain why anyway. He is the Blackhawks leader in goals, assists and points and has 11 more points than the team’s second leading scorer, Alex DeBrincat. Kane is just one of those players that can do whatever he wants on the ice without being stopped. He has really stepped up as a scoring leader this season following the trade of Artemi Panarin. The Devils are going to have to try and keep him off the scoresheet if they want to win tonight.
Marcus Johansson… Johansson still has yet to put up a point since returning to the lineup from injury. I believe that tonight he has a breakout game and really shows fans why the Devils picked him up in the first place. He is on line two with Travis Zajac and Jesper Bratt so this trio should look to do some serious damage tonight. Do not be surprised if he has a multiple point game.
Back and Forth Action… These are two highly talented offensive teams going against each other, along with solid goaltending. Do not expect this game to get too one-sided at any point. It is going to be a very close game and could be a high scoring affair or a goaltending battle right to the end.
Prediction
In my mind, this just does not feel like a good night to be a goaltender at the Prudential Center. These two teams have way too much offensive talent and it is very unlikely that there will be a shutout tonight. If you were to bet on the over/under, take the over. I am selecting the Devils to pick up their 21st win going into the holiday break with a final score of 6-4.
