It is not going to be a fun practice for the New Jersey Devils on Monday. Yesterday they dropped their second straight game, this time to the Philadelphia Flyers 5-2. Here are the stats. The team is now 4-2-0 on the year. Let’s get into what happened.

Game Summary

This game once again featured a lack of discipline, but this one was more on both sides. The Devils came up with two power play goals from Damon Severson and Brian Boyle. The game was competitive for the longest time. It was 1-1 after one period and until Nolan Patrick had the lone second period goal. The third period saw the Boyle goal tie the game after less than five minutes. With under four minutes left in regulation, Jakub Voracek showed off his skills, dangled Keith Kinkaid and tucked home the game winner. Philadelphia would then tack two empty netters to complete the scoring.

Takeaways

These last two games need to be immediately forgotten by the New Jersey Devils. They looked horrible—plain and simple. During these two contest they looked like a team that did not want to be at either game. Coach John Hynes is clearly frustrated from his post game press conferences—I would not want to be a player in practice this week. They have a game against the Nashville Predators on Thursday. Monday through Wednesday practices will not be fun.

There really is not too much to say about the way New Jersey has played the last two games. It has to change on Thursday. Pekka Rinne will not be active so that is a major advantage in goal for New Jersey. It will be interesting to see what kind of line up changes occur for this game as Kevin Rooney has been sent back to Binghamton. There is no word on John Quenneville at this time.
