Matchup Summary

The New Jersey Devils (12-5-4) are back in action at the Prudential Center again tonight as they take on the Vancouver Canucks (11-8-3). Record-wise these teams are fairly even, so this should be an exciting and close game to watch. The Devils are coming off a heartbreaking 3-2 11-round shootout loss to the Boston Bruins on Wednesday. Vancouver on the other hand is playing off a smooth 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Both teams will be looking to take two points and continue their good starts this season.

Keys to the Game

Taylor Hall…With 21 points on the season so far, don’t expect him to slow down anytime soon. He’s on an absolute mission this season to redeem the tough transition year he had in 2016-17; so far so good. He had two assists back on November first against the Canucks when the Devils visited in a 2-0 win. Expect a very solid game out of the winger tonight.

Fight through the injuries- Not having Kyle Palmieri for the next four to six weeks is a major blow to the offensive production. There is still no timetable on a return for Marcus Johansson who remains out with a concussion. These are two key players that the Devils are missing tonight but we have seen this team fight through injuries and other obstacles before so tonight is no different.

Shut Down Brock Boeser- I thought John Tavares was having a low key amazing season, but you cannot fly more under the radar than this 20-year-old rookie for the Canucks. He’s the team leader in goals, assists and points at 11-10-21 respectively. He is extremely talented and is a threat every time he touches the ice. The Devils are going to have to keep him off the score sheet if they want a good chance to take home two points.

Prediction

This is going to be a hard fought 60 minute hockey game between two very talented clubs. Overall, I think the Devils do shut down Boeser, remain disciplined and play hard. So I will be taking the Devils to win tonight’s game 3-1.
