Overview:
The New Jersey Devils continue their trip to Western Canada tonight against the Edmonton Oilers. The Devils are one of the hottest teams in all of hockey, sporting a 9-2-0 record. The Oilers, a team many picked to be Stanley Cup contenders, have faltered out of the gate. The Devils are coming off of two consecutive wins and the Oilers are coming off of two losses.
Keys to the Game:
The Devils are going to have their hands full. Connor McDavid is the best player in the NHL and his speed can take over a game. If the Devils want to contain the Oilers they are going to have to play a strong defensive game in the neutral zone, especially when number 97 is on the ice. The second they let the Oilers break out with speed they are in trouble.
Players to Watch:
Leon Draisaitl. The Malkin to McDavid’s Crosby, Draisaitl is equally as dangerous. Look for him to create some offense for the Oilers tonight.
Nico Hischier. At some point Hischier will line up across from McDavid. It will be interesting to see how the rookie will react to this situation. Look for him to use his quickness and agility in the offensive zone to create some scoring chances.
Prediction:
Oilers are hungry for a win and the Devils are in the middle of the hardest road trip of the year. I think this will be a tough one. The Oilers speed and skill might be able to pick apart the Devils defense.
Oilers win 4-3.
