New Jersey Devils Extend Key Forward, And Breakout Rookie Yegor Sharangovich

Yegor Sharangovich’s Start To Success

New Jersey Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald made qualifying offers to several key Devils’ players earlier in the offseason. Among those qualified was Yegor Sharangovich, who recently put pen to paper on a new two-year contract worth a total of $4,000,000. The Belarusian winger had a breakout year that commenced over with the KHL’s Dinamo Minsk in Belarus. Sharangovich proved early in training camp that head coach Lindy Ruff couldn’t leave him off the roster.

Yegor’s solid offensive output and heads up style of hockey earned him a starting spot that helped fortify his role on the Devils’ shortened season roster. The start to Sharangovich’s NHL career came against a very potent Boston Bruins team. Early in the season, he propelled the Devils to victory in overtime.

There are several different key areas to Sharangovich’s game when watching him play. The aspects that really stands out is he can shoot the puck at will picking corners, devising passes in the right situations, his skating was very fluid, and he has a motor that helps him create offensive zone entries look unflawed.

Yegor Sharangovich scores his first NHL Goal against the Boston Bruins at The Prudential Center in the 2020-2021 shortened season.

Sharangovich’s Outlook

Yegor Sharangovich had 30-points and 16 goals in 54 games played during the shortened season. Over an 82-game season that would equate to a 45-point pace. To compare, if Sharangovich scores at this rate for the next 10 seasons, it would shatter Mikhail Grabovski’s career 296 points. It would also result in Sharangovich leading the all-time NHL Belarusian scoring title.

Re-Signing Yegor Sharangovich

Sharangovich signed a two-year deal worth $2,000,000 average per season. This provides a lot of stability to the Devils’ forward depth chart. If he can score goals at a similar pace to last season, the Devils are getting a 24-goal per season scorer. And as he develops more and plays with better teammates this figure can even rise.

This is a very value-filled re-signing to the Devils’ core under general manager Tom Fitzgerald’s watch. With head coach Lindy Ruff managing Jersey’s team another season, the potential additions of other players in the Devils’ top-six will help ease the workload off the Belarusian wingers’ shoulders. Also, these addition may help Yegor Sharangovich reach his fullest potential and post 45-to-55 points per season.
