The New Jersey Devils defeated the Buffalo Sabres, 4-3, in their fourth consecutive victory on Saturday night at First Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York. Adam Henrique contributed three points (2G-1A), Devils defenseman David Schlemko scored his first goal as a member of the red and black, and rookie forward Sergey Kalinin earned his first career NHL point, assisting on Mike Cammalleri’s second period tally.
Adam Henrique scored 6 goals, registered 3 assists, totaled 19 shots, and played an average of 20:30 per game in his first eight games of the 2015-16 regular season. Due to his recent performance, Henrique has been emerging as one of the leaders on the team after scoring 16 goals in 75 games played during his 2014-15 campaign with New Jersey.
Along with Henrique, Mike Cammalleri had a multi-point game on Saturday night, putting 1 goal and 2 assists on the scoreboard for the Devils. Cammalleri has contributed two goals and six assists in New Jersey’s four-game winning streak.
New Jersey head coach John Hynes believes No. 13 and No. 14 in red, black, and white have been producing extremely well on the ice and are “leading in the way that they play”.
“They’ve been fantastic with how they’ve produced, but I think the biggest thing with those two guys is just how they’re leading in the way that they play.” Hynes said.
Cory Schneider has also recorded his first four-game win streak as a Devil, leading the team over .500 for the first time this season with a 4-3-1 record in 8 games played.
Sabres rookie goaltender Linus Ullmark stopped 24 of 28 shots in his National Hockey League debut. He maintained an .857 save percentage and totaled 57:51 of ice time. He and Schneider made key saves throughout the game to keep the game tight and competitive through 60 minutes.
One of the best skaters on the ice for the Sabres was 24 year-old center Ryan O’Reilly. He had an impressive 3-point performance, putting 1 goal and 2 assists on the scoreboard for the hometown Buffalo Sabres. His lone shot on goal turned out being the first goal of the second period.
Tyler Ennis had 2 points (1G-1A) this evening on Buffalo’s second line with 18-year old Jack Eichel and Sabres captain Brian Gionta. He was second on his team with 3 shots on Saturday, while Gionta led the Sabres with 4 shots on goal.
The Devils concluded their northeastern road swing in Canada’s capitol and in Buffalo having earned 4 points in 2 games.
